Introduction
Cet article explique comment il est possible de migrer l'authentificatio=
n des utilisateurs de l'universit=C3=A9 de Rennes 1 depuis la solution actu=
elle bas=C3=A9e sur l'annuaire LDAP vers une solution bas=C3=A9e sur Kerber=
os, avec les objectifs suivants :
- Supprimer les failles de s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9 actuelles observ=C3=A9es av=
ec l'authentification LDAP.
- Proposer un m=C3=A9canisme d'authentification autre que LDAP pour Windo=
ws 7.
- Disposer d'une authentification SSO depuis la session utilisateur sur l=
es postes clients jusqu'aux applications web.
Nous commen=C3=A7ons par d=C3=A9crire la situation actuelle, puis =
=C3=A9voquons les solutions possibles. Apr=C3=A8s un tr=C3=A8s bref aper=C3=
=A7u de Kerberos, nous montrons les tests qui ont =C3=A9t=C3=A9 men=C3=A9s =
=C3=A0 bien puis proposons une strat=C3=A9gie de d=C3=A9ploiement pour laqu=
elle l'IFSIC serait pilote pour l'universit=C3=A9.
1. La situation actuelle
1.1 Architecture
L'architecture informatique de l'universit=C3=A9 de Rennes 1 est aujourd=
'hui constitu=C3=A9e de :
- postes clients (Windows XP, Linux et Mac OS X). A ces =
postes viendront s'ajouter =C3=A0 la rentr=C3=A9e 2010/2011 des postes Wind=
ows 7.
- serveurs de fichiers
- Network Appliance (commun =C3=A0 toute l'Universit=C3=A9) partag=C3=A9 =
en NFS pour les clients Unix et en CIFS pour les clients Windows
- Serveurs de fichiers Unix partag=C3=A9s en NFS pour les clients Unix et=
/ou CIFS (Samba) pour les clients Windows
- Serveurs de fichiers Windows partag=C3=A9s en CIFS pour les clients Win=
dows
- services applicatifs web
- serveurs d'impression CUPS
1.2 Authentification
Le syst=C3=A8me d'authentification des usagers est architectur=C3=A9 aut=
our de l'annuaire LDAP de l'=C3=A9tablissement qui est d=C3=A9riv=C3=A9 jou=
rnellement du syst=C3=A8me d'information. L'authentification LDAP est dans =
tous les cas r=C3=A9alis=C3=A9e par un fast bind sur l'annuaire du=
couple uid/password dont on veut valider l'authenticit=
=C3=A9, les m=C3=A9canismes suivants sont mis en oeuvre :
- Les clients Unix se basent sur le module PAM pam_ldap.
- Les clients Windows XP utilisent le module PGina, qui stocke les inform=
ations de connexion des utilisateurs (uid/password) et le=
s rejoue quand n=C3=A9cessaire aupr=C3=A8s des serveurs pour effectuer les =
montages (net use).
- Les montages CIFS du Network Appliance transmettent les couples (ui=
d/password) =C3=A0 l'annuaire LDAP pour validation.
- Les montages NFS (v3) sont effectu=C3=A9s sans authentification, par co=
nfiance envers les clients autoris=C3=A9s.
- Les services applicatifs web sont CASifi=C3=A9s, l'authentification au =
niveau du serveur CAS est d=C3=A9l=C3=A9gu=C3=A9e =C3=A0 l'annuaire LDAP.=

- Les clients Windows impriment via des montages SMB sur les serveurs d'i=
mpression, l'authentification est faite par Samba via pam_ldap.
- Les clients Unix impriment en IPP, =C3=A9galement via pam_ldap.
Notons qu'il s'agit d'un usage d=C3=A9tourn=C3=A9 de l'annuaire LDAP, co=
n=C3=A7u initialement comme un service de pages blanches pour la recherche =
d'informations (utilisateurs, machines) et est aujourd'hui principalement u=
tilis=C3=A9 pour l'authentification. Cet usage est n=C3=A9anmoins tr=C3=A8s=
largement adopt=C3=A9 dans nos universit=C3=A9s et r=C3=A9pond fonctionnel=
lement bien au besoin car il permet de contr=C3=B4ler l'acc=C3=A8s =C3=A0 t=
ous les types de services n=C3=A9cessaires sur un r=C3=A9seau informatique =
(ouverture de sessions, impressions, partage de fichiers, ...). Il est de p=
lus disponible dans tous les environnements utilis=C3=A9s (Linux, Windows, =
MacOS, Solaris, ...).
2. Pourquoi =C3=A9voluer ?
L'utilisation de LDAP d=C3=A9crite plus haut est aujourd'hui relativemen=
t g=C3=A9n=C3=A9rale dans les universit=C3=A9s, plusieurs probl=C3=A8mes li=
=C3=A9s =C3=A0 la s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9 des r=C3=A9seaux se posent pourtant.=
p>
2.1 Pour plus de s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9
Les mots de passe des usagers doivent imp=C3=A9rativement =C3=AAtre ache=
min=C3=A9s en clair depuis les postes de travail qui h=C3=A9bergent de=
s services jusqu'aux serveurs LDAP charg=C3=A9s des op=C3=A9rations de cont=
r=C3=B4les. L'utilisation du protocole s=C3=A9curis=C3=A9 LDAPS (LDAP sur T=
LS) permet de contourner ce probl=C3=A8me puisqu'il impose une session TLS =
avant tout dialogue LDAP. L'universit=C3=A9 de Rennes 1 n'utilise pas=
LDAPS et tous les postes de travail du r=C3=A9seau acad=C3=A9mique exposen=
t les mots de passe des usagers aux yeux d'utilisateurs ind=C3=A9licats (l'=
empoisonnement ARP est facile =C3=A0 mettre en oeuvre). L'utilisation de se=
rvices de fichiers mutualis=C3=A9s contr=C3=B4l=C3=A9s par LDAP accentuent =
ce probl=C3=A8me car les mots de passe doivent circuler en clair jusqu'aux =
services avant d'=C3=AAtre achemin=C3=A9s ensuite (=C3=A9ventuellement en L=
DAPS) jusqu'aux serveurs LDAP. Dans ce cadre, les serveurs d'impressions (S=
amba, pam_ldap) ainsi que le serveur de fichiers communautaire de l'univers=
it=C3=A9 de Rennes 1 sont aujourd'hui des maillons faibles de la s=C3=A9cur=
it=C3=A9 du r=C3=A9seau de l'=C3=A9tablissement.
2.2 A cause de l'apparition de Windows 7
En 2009, le nouveau syst=C3=A8me d'exploitaion Windows 7 est apparu, il =
ne s'int=C3=A8gre pas facilement dans un environnement contr=C3=B4l=C3=A9 p=
ar LDAP.
Windows XP utilisait PGina pour intercepter le mot de passe de l'usager =
au moment de la phase de connexion, il le ressortait ensuite quand cel=C3=
=A0 s'av=C3=A9rait n=C3=A9cessaire (utisation de partages, ...). Ce sch=C3=
=A9ma ne peut plus fonctionner sous Windows 7, mais on ne peut toutefois pa=
s renoncer =C3=A0 Windows 7 pour cette raison.
L'IFSIC a d=C3=A9velopp=C3=A9 un outil similaire =C3=A0 PGina (Regina), =
il est en place et fonctionne. La m=C3=A9thode utilis=C3=A9e par Regina et =
PGina pour intercepter et utiliser le mot de passe en clair n'est n=C3=A9an=
moins pas compatible avec les imp=C3=A9ratifs de s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9 d'un r=
=C3=A9seau informatique. Plus g=C3=A9n=C3=A9ralement, c'est l'utilisation d=
e LDAP pour authentifier des usagers qui pose de gros probl=C3=A8mes de s=
=C3=A9curit=C3=A9.
2.3 Pour un SSO de bout en bout
La g=C3=A9n=C3=A9ralisation des ENT a permis la mise en oeuvre de syst=
=C3=A8mes d'authentification unique pour les environnements web, mais on re=
ste pour l'instant dans l'attente d'un syst=C3=A8me d'authentification alla=
nt de l'ouverture de session jusqu'aux applicatifs Web.
3. Les solutions
On distingue trois solutions possibles raisonnablement envisageables =C3=
=A0 la rentr=C3=A9e 2010/2011.
3.1 Ne rien faire
Bien que non s=C3=A9curis=C3=A9, le r=C3=A9seau est aujourd'hui fonction=
nel, il peut rester en l'=C3=A9tat.
Si cette solution est la plus envisageable en terme de co=C3=BBt, elle o=
blige n=C3=A9anmoins =C3=A0 utiliser une =C2=AB verrue =C2=BB suppl=C3=A9me=
ntaire pour Windows 7 (Regina).
3.2 Utiliser Active Directory quand c'est =
possible
Les deux failles principales sont le serveur de fichiers et les services=
d'impressions. S'il est relativement simple de contr=C3=B4ler les acc=C3=
=A8s CIFS au serveur de fichier communautaire (par l'interm=C3=A9diaire d'u=
n serveur Active Directory utilisant une authentification NTLM nettem=
ent plus s=C3=BBre que LDAP), cette solution ne r=C3=A8gle pas compl=C3=A8t=
ement le probl=C3=A8me car :
- les postes Linux utilisent actuellement des montages NFS dans lesquels =
le serveur de fichiers fait confiance au client (s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9 z=C3=A9=
ro). Quelle solution adopter alors ?
- les services d'impressions continuent =C3=A0 utiliser Samba + pam_ldap,=
faut-il les faire basculer aussi vers Active Directory ? Comment se =
passeraient alors les impressions depuis Linux ?
3.3 Changer de m=C3=A9canisme d'authentifi=
cation
Dans ce cadre, seule la solution Kerberos est envisageable.
Deux impl=C3=A9mentations peuvent =C3=AAtre envisag=C3=A9es :
- La mise en place d'un =C2=AB vrai =C2=BB service Kerberos (MIT ou Heima=
l).
- L'utilisation des fonctionnalit=C3=A9s Kerberos de Active Directory.
La deuxi=C3=A8me solution, d=C3=A9crite par Emmanuel Blindauer en 2005 (=
Kerberos : Linux, Windows et le SSO), est possible. N=C3=
=A9anmoins,
- Elle oblige =C3=A0 s'appuyer sur une solution non libre pour l'authenti=
fication, coeur de la s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9 du syst=C3=A8me.
- Elle comporte certains probl=C3=A8mes d=C3=A9crits par le m=C3=AAme aut=
eur quatre ans plus tard (R=C3=A9f=C3=
=A9rentiel d'authentification interop=C3=A9rable et ouvert: Kerberos), =
dans lequel il confessait qu'il eut =C3=A9t=C3=A9 plus judicieux de nommer =
l'article de 2005 =C2=AB Active Directory =3D Windows + Linux + SSO + Probl=
=C3=A8mes =C2=BB.
Notre choix se porte donc clairement sur la premi=C3=A8re solution.

. Kerberos
Kerberos fonctionne en environnement h=C3=A9t=C3=A9rog=C3=A8ne, assurant=
la s=C3=A9curit=C3=A9 des =C3=A9changes sur un r=C3=A9seau non s=C3=BBr et=
permettant la mise en place d'un v=C3=A9ritable service d'authentification=
unique.
Kerberos utilise un syst=C3=A8me de chiffrement sym=C3=A9trique pour ass=
urer un dialogue s=C3=A9curis=C3=A9 entre deux protagonistes. Les dialogues=
s'op=C3=A8rent en utilisant une clef secr=C3=A8te et partag=C3=A9e. Les al=
gorithmes de chiffrement sont publics (AES, DES, 3DES, ...), toute la s=C3=
=A9curit=C3=A9 du syst=C3=A8me repose sur la confidentialit=C3=A9 de la cle=
f de chiffrement. Pour faciliter la gestion d'un tel syst=C3=A8me, Kerberos=
repose sur l'utilisation d'un tiers de confiance qui distribue les clefs a=
ux utilisateurs et services abonn=C3=A9s (les principals). Un serv=
eur Kerberos est appel=C3=A9 KDC (Key Distribution Center).
Kerberos est un service s=C3=BBr qui assure la confidentialit=C3=A9, l'i=
nt=C3=A9grit=C3=A9 des donn=C3=A9es ainsi que la non-r=C3=A9pudiation (les =
participants sont identifi=C3=A9s, y compris le serveur contrairement =C3=
=A0 NTLM). Le service d'authentification assure l'identification unique du =
client et lui procure un ticket de session qu'il pourra utiliser pour deman=
der des tickets d'utilisation des services kerb=C3=A9ris=C3=A9s. U=
n ticket de session chiffr=C3=A9 avec la clef d'un service kerb=C3=A9ri=
s=C3=A9 constitue un ticket de service. On distingue deux fonctionnali=
t=C3=A9s dans un service kerberos :
- le service d'authentification
- le service de d=C3=A9livrement de tickets de services.
Kerberos a =C3=A9t=C3=A9 mis au point au MIT dans les ann=C3=A9es 1990, =
il est maintenant tr=C3=A8s largement d=C3=A9ploy=C3=A9 et est disponible d=
ans tous les environnements aujourd'hui utilis=C3=A9s (Linux, Windows, MacO=
S, ...). Des universit=C3=A9s fran=C3=A7aises ont d=C3=A9j=C3=A0 migr=C3=A9=
leur syst=C3=A8mes d'authentification vers Kerberos, parmi celles-ci on pe=
ut citer les universit=C3=A9s de Strasbourg et de Bordeaux 1.
5. Les tests effectu=C3=A9s
Comme indiqu=C3=A9 en 3.3, la possibilit=C3=A9 d'utiliser le serve=
ur Kerberos enlis=C3=A9 dans un service Active Directory de MicroSoft a =C3=
=A9t=C3=A9 volontairement =C3=A9cart=C3=A9e et les tests ont =C3=A9t=C3=A9 =
effectu=C3=A9s avec un serveur Kerberos h=C3=A9berg=C3=A9 sur un serveur Li=
nux.
Les =C3=A9l=C3=A9ments ci-dessous ont =C3=A9t=C3=A9 valid=C3=A9s.
5.1 Le service Kerberos
Un serveur kerberos (MIT 1.6.1) ma=C3=AEtre est fonctionnel sur =
kerb1.univ-rennes1.fr. Il est redond=C3=A9 par un second serveur e=
sclave (kerb2.univ-rennes1.fr), dont la synchronisation av=
ec le serveur ma=C3=AEtre est assur=C3=A9e par une crontab via le =
protocole kprop.
Une interface web (PHP, CASifi=C3=A9e) permet la gestion des principals =
clients (serveurs et stations de travail).

5.2 Le service CAS
Un serveur CAS (3.3.5) est fonctionnel sur cas-kerb.univ-rennes1=
.fr.
Ce serveur permet le SSO de bout en bout (depuis l'authentification sur =
les postes clients jusqu'=C3=A0 celle sur les applications web).
Il permet =C3=A9galement l'alimentation du royaume Kerberos UNIV-RENNES1=
.FR par interception des authentifications LDAP.

5.3 Les clients
L'authentification Kerberos s'int=C3=A8gre parfaitement (de mani=C3=A8re=
native) dans les clients Linux, l'acc=C3=A8s =C3=A0 tous les services a =
=C3=A9t=C3=A9 valid=C3=A9 : CAS, NFS v3 et v4 (sur serveurs linux et NetApp=
), Samba, CUPS.
L'authentification Kerberos seule est possible pour les clients Windows =
(XP et 7), mais l'acc=C3=A8s au serveur NetApp n=C3=A9cessite l'int=C3=A9gr=
ation d'un sous-domaine Active Directory.
L'authentification des services Samba (sur serveur Unix), CUPS a =C3=A9t=
=C3=A9 valid=C3=A9e.

5.4 Les services de fichiers
Le montage des volumes NetApp a =C3=A9t=C3=A9 valid=C3=A9 =C3=A0 la fois=
en NFS depuis les clients Unix et en CIFS depuis les clients Windows, en s=
'appuyant sur un Active Directory pour lequel une relation d'approbation mu=
tuelle avec le royaume Kerberos a =C3=A9t=C3=A9 mis en place.
Les montages NFS v3 et v4 ainsi que Samba ont =C3=A9galement =C3=A9t=C3=
=A9 valid=C3=A9s, ce qui permet aux entit=C3=A9s l'utilisation de services =
de fichiers autonomes.

5.5 Le service CUPS
Les clients Windows et Unix peuvent imprimer sur un serveur CUPS Kerb=C3=
=A9ris=C3=A9 de mani=C3=A8re transparente.

5.6 Le service 802.1X
Un serveur FreeRadius a =C3=A9t=C3=A9 configur=C3=A9 pour utiliser une b=
ase d'authentification Kerberos.
Le dispositif fonctionne mais ne peut pas =C3=AAtre int=C3=A9gr=C3=A9 dans=
le cadre de l'authentification unique.

6. Une strat=C3=A9gie de d=C3=A9ploiement
Les t=C3=A2ches =C3=A0 r=C3=A9aliser pour mettre l'authentification Kerb=
eros en production sont list=C3=A9es ci-dessous.
Le passage de toute l'universit=C3=A9 =C3=A0 l'authentification Kerberos=
n=C3=A9cessiterait au niveau de chaque cellule les m=C3=AAmes t=C3=A2ches =
que celles =C3=A0 effectuer =C3=A0 l'IFSIC.
6.1 T=C3=A2ches au niveau du CRI

Recr=C3=A9er une infrastructure de production pour les serveurs Kerberos=
kerb1.univ-rennes1.fr et kerb2.univ-rennnes1.fr.

7. Conclusion
Tout est techniquement pr=C3=AAt pour migrer d'une authentification bas=
=C3=A9e sur LDAP =C3=A0 une authentification bas=C3=A9e sur Kerberos.
Nous sommes pr=C3=AAts d=C3=A8s =C3=A0 pr=C3=A9sent =C3=A0 contribuer =
=C3=A0 cette migration en assistant les =C3=A9quipes du CRI pour la mise en=
production (Kerberos, CAS et S=C3=A9same).
