This presentation will cover the use of Opencast, the Apereo open source lecture capture solution and how it has been used at the University of Manchester. Manchester currently records in excess of 60,000 hours of lectures per year with Opencast and has an archive of over 250,000 hours of lectures and other media managed by the application. This talk will cover the reasons for using lecture capture to benefit students, how Opencast works, example software and infrastructure setups, technical and staffing requirements for running an Opencast instance and strategic considerations for successful lecture capture projects. I will also highlight the learning impact of lecture capture and how it can transform the student experience and key decisions needed to achieve the best project outcomes.
