10:45 – OnTask: A tool to support the provision of personalised messages at scale[EN]

    >> Abelardo Pardo (University of South Australia)

Learning experiences are having an increasing percentage of student activities that are mediated by technology. This percentage may have increased significantly with the migration to online delivery due to the pandemic. This new scenario increases the need for instructors to foster a context of sustained student engagement. Providing students with personalised follow-up messages, or engaging with them in feedback processes has undoubtedly the potential to improve the overall quality of the experience. However, such processes are time-consuming, require careful design of the experience and are typically feasible only for small student cohorts. OnTask offers the possibility of connecting comprehensive data sets containing information about student engagement in a technology-mediated setting with the possibility of identifying conditions to create personalized messages. OnTask is being used in numerous institutions with solid evidence of increases on student participation. This talk will present an overview of the underlying theories behind OnTask and the functionality of the tool.
